Damn you, football gods. What has Rutgers done to you to torture us the way you have? It’s been a battle of field position between Iowa and Rutgers all first half until Janarion the Great took a bubble screen and rumbled 77 yards all the way down to the Hawkeye 5 yard line. Amazing. But in a cruel twist of fate, Grant’s ankle was stepped on as he was tackled and it looked ugly. He had trouble standing and was carted off the field. This is awful. It looked really bad and the reality is he may be out for weeks. It could be a high ankle sprain or even a broken foot or ankle. This is obviously a devastating loss for Rutgers and soul crushing for a player of Grant’s ability and the spirit in which he plays. We will update as any reports on his injury emerge.

Of course, Rutgers could not take advantage and Chris Laviano was tackled just short of the goalline on 4th down. Rutgers ran four consecutive run plays for the quarterback, split between freshman Tylin Oden and Laviano. Iowa responded with 99 yard touchdown drive for the first score of the game. Iowa leads 7-0 after a promising first half by Rutgers ends in a crushing way. Stick with OTB with more updates throughout the game and for postgame analysis as well. Go RU and pray for Janarion Grant!

UPDATE: Grant and Quanzell Lambert are out for the season.
