Rutgers Opens As Favorites Over New Mexico

NCAA Football: Howard at Rutgers Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

While fans might be a bit nervous after Saturday’s slow start against Howard, Las Vegas had Rutgers open as favorites against New Mexico.

According to VegasInsider.com, Rutgers is currently a 4 point favorite at home for this coming Saturday’s home game against the Lobos. New Mexico suffered a last minute loss last week to in-state rival New Mexico State, losing 32-31 and dropping to 1-1 on the season.

New Mexico features an option offense and rushing attack that is currently averaging 324.5 yards per game, which is ranked 7th out of 128 FBS teams through two games. Senior running back Teriyon Gipson leads the way, as he averages 122.5 yards per game and a video game like 12.2 yards per carry. Rutgers must improve on their tackling in a major way after having issues in their win against Howard.

The game is set for a noon kickoff at High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday, September 17th. ESPNews will broadcast the game live.
