Rutgers grads have found themselves in many professional sports, from football to soccer and everywhere in between. Now Rutgers can add MMA to that ever growing list. Tonight Rutgers Alum Mickey Gall will be fighting on the main card of UFC 203 in Cleveland, OH. Gall will take on WWE star CM Punk who will be making his UFC debut.
Gall was born in Green Brook, NJ, and was fighting in the Dead Serious Fighting promotion based out of Howell, NJ. While fighting for Dead Serious, Gall was spotted by UFC President Dana White while he was scouting the event. Gall won his fight and seized the opportunity to call out CM Punk in his post-fight speech. That caught Dana Whites attention, and he signed him to the UFC and booked the fight with Punk. That series of events can be seen on the UFC online series "Dana White’s: Looking for a Fight."
Gall made his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 82 in Las Vegas, NV on February 6, 2016. He faced Mike Jackson and finished him in the first round with a rear-naked choke. Following that win, CM Punk was brought into the Octagon for a face-off with Gall. The fight between these two has been building tension ever since.
Gall and Punk will finally be settling their grudge on Saturday night when the two meet inside the Octagon during the main event. Yesterday there was some added fuel to the fire at the UFC ceremonial weigh-ins that aired on FS1. Gall extended his hand to CM Punk before their face-off, Punk refused to shake his hand. Gall began to trash talk Punk a little before the two were separated by Dana White. Later when asked why he did shake Gall’s hand Punk replied "I'm not here to shake anybody's hand. I'm here to punch people in the face."
