30 Reasons for 30 Days - Day 25: It’s a B1G Club with R Magnets, Too!

From now through September 3rd, I am posting a daily reason why it is great to be a fan of Rutgers football. There are a lot more than thirty, but I picked my thirty reasons, and hope you like them. If not, be sure to let me know.

Since the critical day in November 2012, we have been part of a club, though technically it did not begin until July 1, 2014. That’s right, though some traditionalists still may be upset somewhere in the Midwest, the Scarlet Knights are now a part of the oldest and most successful college athletic conference.

With that, Rutgers also became a part of a large fraternity of alumni, with somewhere between 4.7 million and 5 million alums from the 14 schools. Rutgers alone has approximately 470,000 living alumni, and growing larger each May.

As most Rutgers alumni know, no matter where you go, you run into someone who is a part of Rutgers. All you need to do is wear or carry something with a Block R on it, and suddenly you have strangers speaking to you.

OK, that doesn’t happen in the immediate vicinity of New Brunswick or even in New Jersey, where the Block R is omnipresent. However, step out of state, and suddenly you realize that Rutgers fans are everywhere.

Additionally, Rutgers supporters have taken to showing off their Block R wherever they go and posting them online, to show the reach of Rutgers. Now, pictures showing where Rutgers support lies is being demonstrated across the globe. Yes, it is a big club!

So Rutgers fans, embrace your “belongingness.” You now belong to a very B1G club, and everywhere you go, there are Block Rs showing you the way!
