RUHungryNJ.net

From now until September 3rd, I am going to post a daily reason why it is great to be a fan of Rutgers football. There are a lot more than thirty, but I picked my thirty reasons, and hope you like them. If not, be sure to let me know (though that has never been a problem for our readers to date).

You can’t be a fan of Rutgers football without knowing about the famous Rutgers Fat Sandwiches. The fat sandwich as been around since the 1970s, and has had national renown for well over 10 years. Here is a USA Today article from a dozen years ago that shares the Maxim list that named the Rutgers Fat Sandwich the BEST sandwich in the country.

The media loves these, and promotes them as much as possible. Here’s a Fox 5 New York interviewing Darrell Butler, the “inventor” of the Fat Darrell Sandwich:

It doesn’t hurt that POTUS himself, Barack Obama gave a shout-out to the unique creation at Commencement this past May when he said, “"Mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers on your cheese steaks. I am sure Michelle would approve."

Of course, all tailgating fans know that you can get the Fat Sandwich of your choice at every home game from the grease truck parked between the Blue and Yellow Lots. As expected, there is always a line, too.

The Food Network’s Paula Dean gave their viewers a recipe for themselves. Of course, it has also been immortalized by the Travel Channel’s show Man v Food with this segment:

So, our Day 29 reason why it is great to be a Rutgers fan is the eponymous Rutgers Fat Sandwich! See you tomorrow for our next 30 Reasons for 30 Days why it is great to be a Rutgers fan.
