The Rutgers women's soccer team is back on the winning track, following their win on Friday against St. Joseph's. The Scarlet Knights were coming into the game with St. Joseph's after a draw with Providence University in the home opener last week. That draw with Providence led to Rutgers drop in the rankings to number 22. The team is looking to rise back up in the rankings after this weekend, and they are certainly on their way following this win.
The match began with both teams struggling to create opportunities, but it was in the 75th minute that Rutgers was able to capitalize. Freshman Amanda Visco was able to put one past the St. Joseph's goalkeeper off of a free kick sent in by Nicole Whitley. This was Visco's first goal as a member of the Scarlet Knights. This was Whitley's second assist on the season, along with two goals in previous games, that brings her points on the season to four. Whitley and Visco were teammates on the club team PDA Arsenal prior to coming to Rutgers.
Rutgers out shot St. Joseph's 19-8 and beat them out in shots on goal, and corners as well. Goalkeeper Alana Jimenez completed her first shutout this year and her second win. Following the game coach Mike O'Neill spoke a bit about the game to ScarletKnights.com, he said "We're there, we're all over it. We're hoping that we continue to create and knock down the door. I thought we played well, we just made it difficult on ourselves by not finishing chances. But we'll get better."
