Men’s soccer closed out 2015 with a 12-7-2 record and a second round loss in the NCAA Tournament to College Cup participant Akron. And a seven-game win streak at the close of the season was ended with a 3-1 regular season loss to Maryland.
It is a team that was picked to finish fourth in the Big Ten. There is something to prove for a team that is currently ranked No. 25 (NSCAA) in the nation.
The squad opens its season at home this Friday at 8:00 pm against No. 7 Creighton in the second game of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The women kickoff against St.Joe’s at 5:30.
One of the highlights thus far in the early going is the announcement that junior forward Jason Wright was named to the first team preseason All America team by College Soccer News.

Wright was one of 30 men’s soccer student-athletes to be named to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and was recognized by Top Drawer Soccer as one of the top returning forwards in the nation.

Along with Rutgers at No. 25, three other B1G squads are in the NSCAA Top 25: Maryland (4), Indiana (15), and Ohio State (18). Those are also the four teams ranked ahead of RU in the Big Ten preseason poll.
