Five Weeks To Rutgers Football

NCAA Football: Maryland at Rutgers Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

As the calendar is close to turning to August, today brings us just five Saturdays away from the start of the Rutgers football season. While the beginning of the Ash era has excited and instilled hope into the fanbase, yesterday I emphasized that patience should be the mantra for the 2016 season.

With that being said, there is talent on this team and it will be fun to see how the players have developed since last season. No one was happy with the team’s performance a year ago, but there were plenty of highlight worthy plays throughout the season. As we wait another 35 days to see the new look program under Chris Ash make its 2016 debut, here is a hype video that is well done by illinoisaaron (no relation). There are playmaker’s returning for this season and how the new coaching staff utilizes them will be exciting to watch.

Quick Hits:

NJ Advance Media’s Keith Sargeant provided updates on new weight room that was supposed to be completed in June, which we discussed here. Once complete, it will be a great change for the players this season.

Rutgers football will host a bunch of recruits today for a camp and BBQ, making it a big day for the coaching staff. Todderick Hunt of NJ Advance Media reports on which players are expected to attend and the list is impressive. One of Rutgers top targets for the class of 2017, 4-star receiver Markquese Bell, mentioned on twitter he was on his way to campus.

Our own Scott Logan wrote about the chances Rutgers has with Bell, who stated this week he plans to announce his decision on December 1st.

Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media spoke with Ohio State legend and current college football analyst Eddie George, who thinks Rutgers is on the rise under Ash.
