Howie is Houston bound! Rutgers ace starting pitcher Howie Brey was selected this afternoon by the Houston Astros in the 31st round of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Brey just finished his senior season with 6-5 record, a 3.50 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings pitched. The lefthander started 14 games, registering 4 complete games and 1 shutout. Opponents had only a .246 batting average against Brey. He was named third team All-Big Ten for the 2016 season after pitching the second most innings and striking out the fifth most batters in the conference.

The two-time captain finished his Rutgers career in the program record books with the third most strikeouts, fourth most starts, fourth most in innings pitched, and eighth in victories all-time.

Congratulations to Howie on a great career on the banks and best of luck to him in the major leagues!
