Knights in the NFL: Mohamed Sanu Signs with Falcons

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

After a strong season with the Cincinnati Bengals, WR Mohamed Sanu cashed in during the NFL's free agency frenzy. Sanu signed a five-year, $32.5 million dollar deal with the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, $14 million of which is guaranteed. With the release of veteran Roddy White earlier in the offseason, Atlanta is hoping the versatile Sanu can step in and help fill the void felt from the all-time leading receiver's departure.

Sanu was listed as the 38th best available free agent by Pro Football Talk this offseason, after a 2016 season with 33 passes for 395 and a pair of touchdowns. It has been reported Sanu had his pick between a number of teams, including the Giants, Redskins, and Patriots. While money undoubtedly was a factor in his decision, Sanu also has the chance to be the beneficiary of a typically high powered offense highlighted by QB Matt Ryan and star wideout Julio Jones. While Jones will see double teams on a weekly basis, Sanu should get some good looks from defenses.

Congrats to Mohamed! Can it be football season already?
