Rutgers Wrestling: Rankings and other good stuff

Rankings were up and down. But Rutgers picked up a big feather for its headgear with a host spot for the National Duals.

Two weekend losses cost Rutgers a couple of spots in the national rankings.  But on an individual basis, several Knights moved up or held steady.

Rutgers Hosting NWCA Duals

Rutgers is one of eight Big Ten schools to host the Duals.  RU will hold its dual series match at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Rutgers Athletic Center. Rutgers' opponent will be determined based on the dual results of the next two weeks.  For more details on the program, check here.

Individual Rankings

Six Knights appear in the national rankings, Anthony Ashnault is the highest ranked Knight at No. 4 by FloWrestling.

Richie Lewis at 157 jumped five spots in the InterMat rankings to No. 12.

Team National Rankings

Rutgers dropped two spots in the USA Today/NWCA poll for the week after dropping both bouts over the weekend. FloWrestling has RU at No. 12 in dual rankings and No. 14 in tournament ranking whileInterMat has the Knights at No. 15

Adam Coon, Michigan, Heavyweight - Jr.

  • Earned first-period pins against both opponents on the weekend, leading Michigan to wins over Maryland and Rutgers
  • Pinned Dawson Peck of Maryland in 2:13
  • Tallied a pin against No. 13 Billy Smith of Rutgers in 1:25, lifting the Wolverines to a win over the Scarlet Knights
  • Extended his record to 14-0 on the season, including five pins and six straight bonus wins
