Florida LB Jonathan Pollock officially joined Rutgers football on Wednesday, signing his National Letter of Intent for the program.
The Orlando native picked Rutgers over North Carolina, Mississippi State, Indiana, Memphis, Temple, and others.
Pollock, a three-star recruit, might just be Rutgers' most important recruit of this class. Ever since he committed to the Scarlet Knights in October 2014, he has been vocal and enthusiastic about Rutgers, and seamlessly took over the role as recruiter after Ted Field's departure. Pollock enrolled early, and has already begun classes at Rutgers. He'll be able to participate in spring practice, which should help him get a leg up on his fellow freshmen and give him a good shot at earning playing time as a true freshman. Pollock has a keen ability to rush the quarterback and stuff the run, and isn't afraid to drop back into coverage as well.
Freshman Impact Index: 7 - Quentin Gause and Kaiwan Lewis graduated, and Steve Longa declared for the NFL Draft, leaving Rutgers without all three of its starting linebackers from 2015. With the lack of experience at linebacker, Pollock could conceivably earn himself a starting job with a strong showing in the spring. At the very least, I expect him to be one of the first guys off the bench.
