NSD: G Sam Howson Signs!

The Pope John lineman makes it official.

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Pope John G Sam Howson has officially joined Rutgers, signing with the Scarlet Knights on Wednesday.

Howson, a three-star recruit, committed to the Scarlet Knights just a few days ago on January 31, choosing Rutgers over offers from Monmouth, Maine, and Wagner.

The 6-5, 280 lineman was definitely a late bloomer, adding 60 pounds between his junior and senior years, helping him gain a reputation as a promising collegiate big man. Howson seemed to always be interested in ending up at Rutgers, attending last year's Big Man Academy on the banks and taking an unofficial visit last October.

Freshman Impact Index: 2 - A look at Howson's film shows a powerful, strong o-lineman that has room to grow. He has only been playing at his current 280-pound frame for one season, and is still a bit raw. In addition, Rutgers tends to redshirt freshman offensive linemen or limit them to backup duties, so Howson should be viewed as a long-term prospect instead of an immediate difference maker.
