Timber Creek OLB Tyreek Williams has officially joined the Scarlet Knights, signing with Rutgers on Wednesday.
The three-star linebacker committed to Buffalo last August, but decommitted on January 25. Rutgers quickly made a push for Williams, and he announced his decision to join the Scarlet Knights on January 27. He also held offers from Temple, Navy, Monmouth, Stony Brook, and others.
Williams is a bruising edge rusher, pushing his blockers around and making the quarterback pay if he stands in the pocket for too long. He also has a great eye for the ball, as Williams will pounce on an under-thrown pass and try and take it to the house. Williams also excels as a run stopper, and acts as a brick wall for many runners coming his way. He's also not afraid to dive after a running back to make a shoestring tackle.
Freshman Impact Index: 6 - Rutgers' linebacker situation is very fluid after losing all three starters from last season to graduation and/or the NFL Draft. The coaching staff has addressed the issue via recruiting, adding five linebackers to this incoming recruiting class. Like the rest of them, Williams will have every opportunity to see playing time, but will have to play catch up with Jonathan Pollock and Solomon Manning, who both enrolled early.
