Rutgers Athletics Weekend Schedule Is Action Packed

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

This weekend is a full slate for both the winter and spring sports.  While we will have previews  for men's basketball and wrestling later on, we also wanted to give a run down of all our teams in action.  Here is a breakdown and update on each team's season.

Friday

Baseball

The Rutgers baseball teams opens their season tonight at 7pm on the road against #4 Miami.  We previewed their season here. Senior ace Howie Brey takes the mound tonight and the game can be watched on ESPN3 here.

Softball

The softball had rough start to their season, losing all five games last weekend at the UCF Invitational, including to four ranked teams. This weekend they play at the Rafter Memorial Tournament at Kennesaw State.  Today they have a doubleheader, taking on the host school at 12:30 pm and then Bowling Green at 3 pm.

Saturday

Men's Basketball

The Eddie Jordan seven take on Penn State at 1pm at the RAC and the game can be seen on BTN.  Penn State is coming in on a high after knocking off #4 Iowa on 79-75 on Wednesday.  A full game preview will be posted early Saturday morning.

Women's Tennis

They are off to a 2-2 start this season and head to West Point, NY to take on Army at 2 pm.

Softball

They are back in action early the next morning, taking on Morehead State at 10 am.

Lacrosse

The men's lacrosse team is back in action after opening the season with a 19-11 win over St. John's.  Senior captain Scott Bieda and freshman Andrew Charalambides won B1G honors for their performances. They head to West Point, NY to take on Army at 2:30 pm in the 79th meeting between the two programs.

Women's Gymnastics

They host a quad meet with Temple, Ursinus, and Penn at the Livingston Gym at 6 pm.

Women's Lacrosse

After dropping to 1-1 on the season with a tough 12-10 loss against Monmouth on Wednesday, Coach Brand-Sias leads her team against #15 Johns Hopkins at Highpoint Solutions Stadium at 1 pm. This is a non-conference game but starting next year, Hopkins will be part of the Big Ten conference for lacrosse.  Rutgers lost this matchup last season 14-6.
