Report: RS Fr. Mike Dare To Transfer From Rutgers, QB exodus continues

Dare the 3rd QB reported to transfer in the last 48 hours

#18 Mike Dare is transferring.

As we speculated in our class of 2015 review, Redshirt freshman quarterback Mike Dare is taking his talents somewhere other than Rutgers University. As we also mentioned, Knights fans will have a tough time if he rewrites the record books at his next stop. If he goes to an FBS school, he will need to sit out a year and have 2 years of eligibility remaining. If he goes FCS, he will be eligible immediately.

From Bergen County like Mike Teel and the same home town as Gary Nova, Dare elected to stay “home” the first time, playing for his hometown Memorial High School in Elmwood Park, NJ, where he led the Crusaders as a four year starter. Dare then shined at Rutgers camp where he was offered as a pro-style passer with a big arm. As pro scouts would say, “he can make all the throws.” There was speculation RU might add another QB in his class, but they did not after he again stayed home by enrolling at Rutgers over Power 5 programs Virginia and Boston College.

It was a six-way battle for to start at QB in training camp and Dare was somewhere in the 4, 5, or 6 range as Allen and Laviano were listed at the top. Then the staff elected to give Tylin Oden action in several games, Gio became the starter and Dare was left to wonder if he would ever get a shot. The fan base will never know after this news.

ScarletNation.com was first to report Dare's transfer.

Dare joins Hayden Rettig and Chris Laviano as quarterbacks to transfer from the Rutgers program in the last 72 hours following a 2-10 season, leaving now three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster. This exodus is reminiscent of one at Texas Tech recently.

We wish Dare the best of luck in the rest of his career.
