There doesn’t appear to be changes to the depth chart this week, as Rutgers prepares to take on Michigan State on the road this coming Saturday. They opened as heavy underdogs in Vegas and still are dealing with some health issues.
Robert Martin didn’t play on offense last week and was limited to special teams. Starting safety Anthony Cioffi was banged up during the Indiana game. Quarterback Gio Rescigno looked limited somewhat by his hamstring, two weeks after tweaking it against Minnesota. Hopefully, some of those issues heal a bit this week and Rutgers is closer to full strength on Saturday in East Lansing, Michigan.
Michigan State is dealing with their own injury issues, as starting quarterback Tyler O’Connor is being evaluated after Saturday’s loss to Illinois. He took a big hit in the game, but it’s believed he did not suffer a concussion. No word yet if he has been cleared to play against Rutgers.
Both teams have identical records of 2-7 overall and 0-6 in Big Ten play. Although the Spartans did beat a ranked Notre Dame team early in the season, they actually have zero victories over a winning team this year. Rutgers on the other hand, can claim New Mexico, who are now 5-3 on the season and are winners of four straight games.
