Do we really need another “day”?
Well, in this case, yes. The day is now in its fifth year of existence. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday (do you have any money left?), the idea was that “#GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.”
And what better way to give than to give to your Alma Mater. I'd love to say give it all to Rutgers, but I know there are lots of needy and worthwhile charities out there, and each of us has a special one. Me? I have a few including my class’ scholarship fund, World Hunger Year, Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Rutgers GSE, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Monmouth & Middlesex Counties, the Salvation Army, and the Rutgers History Department. Spread the wealth!
Some may ask, “Bob, where’s your R Big Build donation?” And Bob says, that’s a multi-year pledge. It comes out every month until those two lockers in the RWJBarnabas Health Performance Center are paid for. I’m covered.
You might also ask, so how’s the campaign going? Glad you asked. At the start of October, numbers looked like this:
A month later, it’s better....and growing.
Of course, we’re still a long way from getting the hoops/wrestling/gymnastics facility done. Which means we’re even further from breaking ground on the lacrosse/soccer/tennis facility. And even further from renovating the Hale Center to a football only building. Giving Tuesday might be a good time to start to move the process along with a gift.
Rutgers has a site highlighting the Scarlet version of Giving Tuesday; you can check it out here. And if you’re ready to give to RU, you can click here and the nice folks at Winants Hall will be there to accept your generosity.
