Rutgers vs. Illinois Game Recap

Wasn’t the most joyous of homecomings

NCAA Football: Illinois at Rutgers Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

It was a beautiful day in Piscataway and the team and crowd had a hopeful feel to it. Unfortunately, that hope faded by the time halftime rolled by.

The quarterbacks fumbled the snap twice on fourth down and Giovanni Rescigno threw a pick six in the third quarter to expand the lead for the Fighting Illini to 17 points.

On the bright side, Rescigno did something the Scarlet Knights have not done since September 24, scored a touchdown. He threw a three yard touchdown to Nick Arcidiacono.

The offense had some life to it today but turnovers really stopped the momentum and the potential to score. The defense did a good job but they had their moments of missed tackles and bad plays.

We should have had a lot more points than zero going into halftime, but, again, turnovers were the Achilles Heel.

Rutgers has another tough game next week going to Minnesota against the Golden Gophers. Hopefully they can build on some of the good things we all saw today and fix the bad things we all also saw.

Here is to next week. Another week of hoping. Another week of building. #KeepChopping #GoKnights
