Rutgers Women’s Soccer hold their own over the weekend

The Rutgers Women’s soccer team had a successful outing this past weekend. The team continued on their road to the playoffs as they took on Purdue at home on Thursday and Indiana away on Sunday. The number 24 ranked Rutgers team improved to 9-3-2 on the season following the two games this weekend. They are on the road again this week, traveling to Penn State then to Ohio State.

In the game on Thursday against Purdue, the Scarlet Knights showed their skills in overtime for the fifth time this season. Rutgers was unable to score in the first half against Purdue, but it was junior Colby Ciarrocca who was able to put one past the Purdue goalkeeper at the 63rd minute to bring the score up to 1-1. The game remained scoreless through regulation time, they were sent to overtime. It was a goal from Senior Madison Tiernan that secured the win in the 99th minute. Goalkeeper Alana Jimenez had five saves on the day. The win was the second all-time against Purdue and the fifth this season at home.

The second game of the weekend, that took place in Bloomington, Ind at Indiana University didn’t end so well for the Scarlet Knights. Senior Madison Tiernan was able to score again in this game, this time, it was early in the first half. Shortly after that Tori Prager put one into the net herself to put Rutgers up 2-0. As the game progressed Rutgers was unable to put any more points on the board. Indiana tied it up in the final minutes of the first half. The score remained tied 2-2 through to the end for a tie.

Rutgers will be looking ahead at a very tough opponent in #10 Penn State in a few days, which is a rematch of last year’s College Cup Semifinals. Following that game, they continue on the road to take on Ohio State on Sunday, October 16th.
