Commit Alert! RB Ross Douglas

Saturday began with a blow to Rutgers' 2016 recruiting class when TE Korab Idrizi flipped to Boston College, but Chris Ash and company wasted no time in rebounding, as RB Ross Douglas has announced his commitment to the Scarlet Knights.

Douglas, who is currently on campus for his official visit, made the announcement on his Twitter page.

Douglas is different than most of the recruits Rutgers will be adding through this recruiting class. Unlike the rest of the class, which is made up of high school seniors, Douglas already has three years of collegiate experience under his belt, as he is transferring from Michigan to Rutgers as a post-graduate player.

The Avon, OH native was a four-star recruit in high school, and he held offers from Ole Miss, Penn State, Louisville, Tennessee, West Virginia, Nebraska, and others before joining Michigan's 2013 recruiting class.

After redshirting his freshman year, Douglas worked as a running back for Michigan's spring practices in 2014, despite primarily playing defensive back in high school. Then-Michigan coach Brady Hoke changed Douglas' position once again that summer, working him as a slot receiver. While he appeared in ten games as a redshirt freshman in 2014, he did not register a stat.

Douglas changed positions once again heading into the 2015 season, returning to the running back role. Douglas was a deep reserve for the Wolverines, and only appeared in five games. He tallied just 18 yards on his ten carries. Interestingly enough, he appeared in the game between Michigan and Rutgers last season, recording eight yards on two carries.

Since Douglas is a graduate transfer, he does not have to sit out a year, and is eligible to play for Rutgers immediately. Since he graduated from Michigan in just three years, he has two years of eligibility remaining.

Douglas' role on the 2016 Scarlet Knights should be interesting to keep an eye on. The team is pretty set at running back, with Josh Hicks and Robert Marin operating as the clear-cut top two backs, with Justin Goodwin and Desmon Peoples behind them. Rutgers would likely be best served moving Douglas back to cornerback, where he excelled in high school.

Douglas becomes the 15th member of the 2016 recruiting class, and is likely not the last as the march towards National Signing Day continues.
