Commit Alert! Patrice Rene

Kyle Flood locked down the 19th commitment and first 4-star recruit in the 2016 class when CB Patrice Rene chose the Scarlet Knights over multiple high-level FBS offers.

We got one!

Finally, a 4-star recruit has decided to make the leap and join Chop Nation! Let's meet the young man who could be the trailblazer for the Canada-Rutgers pipeline.

Big-bodied CB

Patrice Rene possesses elite size for a CB, standing at 6-2 with long arms. He is exactly what Joe Rossi wants in a lockdown corner opposite 6-1 Blessaun Austin. These two players could be the start of a revival in the Rutgers secondary. In a game where height is becoming a crucial aspect on defense, Kyle Flood has done a great job of getting bigger bodies on the defensive side of the ball.

How did we land him?

Rutgers really found themselves in a great position for Rene, who had a top two of the Scarlet Knights and Ohio State. While many other teams eased up on Rene when his interest in tOSU rose, Kyle Flood kept his steady pursuit of the Canadian talent. Rene put on a show at Ohio State's Friday Night Lights camp, but apparently it wasn't enough for Urban Meyer to accept his commitment. As a result, Rene settled into the welcoming arms of the Rutgers F.A.M.I.L.Y. and a situation where he will be valued as a gem of the 2016 class.

Canadian Pipeline?

You read that right, a Canada to Rutgers pipeline is now suddenly in the works with Rene on board. Rene originally hails from Ottawa and is mentored by Victor Tedondo. In an interview with Todderick Hunt, Tedondo said that if Rene went to Rutgers, 4-star c/o 2017 DE Luiji Vilain would follow him to the banks. Just read what Tedondo had to say about Vilain and that should speak volumes as to how big of a day this could be for Kyle Flood. Let's not stop there, though. Jonathan Southerland is a 4-star safety at Episcopal also hails from Canada and could be donning the block R in the future.

I am not guaranteeing anything but it is certainly worth noting that one of the people closest to the situation has predicted great things for Rutgers recruiting in 2017.

Let's get pumped for the future!

Note: I reference the 247 Sports ranking system, not the composite rankings when I refer to Rene as a 4-star.
