Rutgers landed a commitment from maybe the best 2-star recruit out there in Dematha Catholic (MD) OT Elijah Johnson. Johnson boasts an offer list from multiple power 5 schools such as Pitt, West Virginia, BC, Maryland, and Virginia.

Standing at 6-6 and tipping the scales at around 320 pounds, Johnson likely rounds up the Rutgers recruiting class at offensive line. He joins 3-star recruits Nick Krimin and Justin Morgan as the future bodyguards of Anthony Russo. In regards to Russo, he has nothing to complain with 3 behemoth lineman protecting him and paving the way for incoming HB Trey Snead.
Another reason to be excited about Johnson is that we stole him right from the clutches of hot head Randy Edsall, who was hoping to have him protect some QB from Maryland that committed to him. In addition, Rutgers is still in play for Johnson's teammate Tino Ellis and he could help sway Ellis to think about Rutgers more than schools like Virginia Tech and Maryland.
Above all, Kyle Flood has once again dipped into unfamiliar territory and snagged a kid that can help make an impact. Before you think "ugh, what good is a 2-star," take a look at his offer list and watch his highlights below to understand why this is a great get for Kyle Flood and his staff. It also doesn't hurt that our smallest O-Line commit is 320 pounds; what a great problem to have!
