Friday Knight Lights is in the books. And on Saturday (4/25) the close of the spring games in most of college football wraps up the 15 day season.
So, how did Rutgers do in bringing out a crowd? There were a lot of folks who really didn't like the idea of a Friday night game. Getting out of work, traffic, not enough time to tailgate, yada, yada, yada. And all legitimate complaints. Tie in the fact that winter just won't quit around here (did you get a frost advisory on your weather app?) and it wasn't ideal.
But, Rutgers reported a crowd of 15, 782. And as I wrote in a comment elsewhere, if you're not Ohio State, that isn't too shabby. A listing of those spring games that were reported through last weekend is here. And below a breakout of B1G games:
School |
Attendance |
Ohio State |
99,391 |
Nebraska |
76,881 |
ttfp |
68,000 |
Michigan |
60,000 |
Rutgers |
15,782 |
Minnesota |
10,100 |
And if you look at the overall list, you see Rutgers wasn't all that bad at all. By comparison, Florida State (and you know it wasn't cold in Tallahassee) only had 17,250. Ole Miss reported 15,000. So, when a comment gets posted on OTB that reads:
I went...
very disappointed.
They could not have expected a large crowd because 5/6 of the place was closed.
....well, I get disappointed....and flummoxed. What do people expect? Seriously? And, by the way, my reply back was that they close off sections for TV. All the available seating was opposite the press box. If they had more show up, they could open more sections. Disappointed at over 15,000 for the spring game? In less than ideal conditions? Would you like to see how some of our friends from the old neighborhood did at their spring games?
