Finally a bit of good news for the Rutgers men's basketball program! Corey Sanders was named the Big Ten Freshman of the week for his performance against Fairleigh Dickinson last Wednesday. Sanders scored 21 points, including shooting 4-8 from three-point range and added 5 rebounds and 2 assists. He put Rutgers on his back in the comeback win. It was the first conference honor of his Rutgers career.
Sanders is currently leading all Big Ten freshman in scoring (13.5 ppg) and steals (1.5 spg). He is also second for freshman with assists (3.5 apg). Sanders leads Rutgers in minutes per game, scoring, assists, and steals. He is shooting 42% from the field, 36% from three-point range, and 76% from the free-throw line.
He has lived up to the hype so far this season! With conference play starting Wednesday against Indiana, Sanders will have a chance to prove his worth against some of the best teams in the country.
