Rutgers vs Michigan // Game Preview

Alex Goodlett/Getty Images

As pessimism reaches an all-time high in Piscataway, the Scarlet Knights are tasked with traveling to Ann Arbor to face the 17th-ranked Wolverines. Let's take a look at what's in store for Rutgers.

Opposing Player Spotlight

S/CB/LB/QB/HB/WR/KR/PR Jabrill Peppers, 6-1 205

Another week, another NJ product on Rutgers' radar. Peppers was a New Jersey high school legend who was essentially the entire Paramus Catholic team. The Paladins were appropriately referred to as "Jabrill Catholic" and "Paramus Peppers" due to his ability to do everything. He brings that versatility to Michigan, and he is featured as a member of the secondary, a returner, and a skill player on offense. He is a key player for the Wolverines for all 3 aspects of the game. He will be on the field basically all day and doesn't get very tired.

How Rutgers Wins

Non-Offensive touchdowns

Chris Laviano has failed to lead an offense to a TD against Penn State, Ohio State, or Wisconsin. The chances that he can manage a scoring drive on the road against Michigan are very slim. Rutgers will need to get touchdowns from elsewhere to stay in the game. It sure would be nice to see Janarion Grant get back on the score sheet...

Take advantage of Jake Rudock

Jake Rudock is one glaring weakness on the Michigan football team. He only has 6 TDs to 7 INTs and was injured late against Minnesota. He is expected to play against Rutgers but will not be 100%. Rutgers should bring pressure and due their best to disrupt the Wolverines' signal callers

Pray

We need faith to have a shot.

How Rutgers Loses

More Bullets!

  • Chris Laviano is Chris Laviano
  • Leonte Carroo doesn't play
  • Failure to establish the running game
  • Give up big drives to Michigan's offense
  • Lost the special teams battle
  • Kickoffs don't reach the endzone

My Prediction

I do not think Rutgers will score a point. The offense will struggle against Michigan's stout defense. Our kicker is below-average. Our defense is porous and their bad QB will probably have the game of his life because what QB doesn't have the game of their life against Rutgers? Michigan 42-0 Rutgers
