Voting for a coach: Round of 16 - Withers vs. Canada

This ends the first round...and we're down to the final eight after this.

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

I hope no one thinks we jumped the shark on this one.

Matt Canada made it past Georgia Southern's Willie Fritz in the coach-in.  But Everett Withers is here on his own.  On your mark, get set, read!

Knockout Round 8

Everett Withers, James Madison, Head Coach

They made it to College Gameday.  Yes, that's the coach in the photo sitting there with ESPN-types. In his second year leading the Dukes.  Prior to JMU, Withers was assistant head coach, co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach for the 2012 and 2013 seasons at Ohio State.  Have we checked off any boxes yet?  He has coached for 27 years, back and forth between the NFL and college stops such as UNC, Minnesota, Texas, and Louisville.

JMU is 16-6 under Withers, heading into tomorrow's game at Delaware, and are ranked 11th in the FCS coaches' poll.

The 52-year old was a four-year letterman at Appalachian State and he is originally from North Carolina.

Matt Canada, NC State, Offensive Coordinator

Indiana born, Hoosier grad.  An offensive coordinator at Butler, Northern Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  Butch Jones at Tennessee wanted him but NC State upped his salary to keep him....just like Rutgers would have (choke...barf...gag).

The 48-year old also has a Masters in Sports Administraytion so he could be an A.D. down the line.

Up next: Enjoy the weekend....the Elite Eight starts on Tuesday.
