Why college football is the greatest sport on the planet

Yesterday, our very own Dave White wrote about college hoops being better than college football. It struck a nerve and I felt the need to write my own opinion. However, instead of directly coming at Dave and telling him why I think he is wrong, I will simply state the case for the greatest sport in the world. The following proves why college football is better than every other sport out there.

1. Every game is crucial

Something that makes college hoops great is the fact that the postseason championship race is so incluscive. After the regular season, 68 teams have a shot to become the kings of the college basketball world. In college football, only 4 teams get that opportunity. They have about 13 games to prove their case. In hoops, they have a little more than 30 games. Evidently, a loss in hoops isn't killer since either winning a conference tourney or losing less than 9 games as a Power 5/Mid-Major gets you in the Big Dance. On Saturday, P5 team TCU lost its first game of the season, effectively ending their championship hopes. Teams in the SEC, such as Alabama, are incredibly fortunate since they can lose ONE whopping game before losing all hope of hoisting the crystal football. Simply put, there is a much smaller margin for error in football.

Sure, college arenas are incredibly loud and rowdy, but 70,000>10,000. @NFL: show me 70,000 middle aged men jumping around for 2 minutes straight and then I'll be impressed.

The Bottom Line

I obviously can't cover every single sport in one article, but give me any sport and I'll take College Football every time. There is just something about the sport that sucks you in and keeps you hooked for life. There is no other sport I could sit on my couch and watch from noon until the 10:30pm games wrap up around 2am. That's right, I can (and have done so) watch college football for 14 hours straight. If there is a testament to how great college football is, just think of how many Rutgers fans still watch the Scarlet Knights week after week given the state they are in. It truly brings out the loyalty in all of us.
