MEN'S SOCCER

A grueling loss to Penn State in a downpour was a distant memory as the Knights bounced back with a resounding non-conference win over Yale.  That was followed up by a thrilling win in overtime against the then-conference leading No. 25 Wolverines on the road. Leading scorer Jason Wright put away the golden goal two and a half minutes into overtime to lead the Rutgers men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Michigan on Saturday at UM Soccer Stadium. The Knights have an opportunity to solidify their position in the standings on Friday when they face Northwestern.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Two home games this week against a team tied with them in the standings and against one of the leaders will help to define the women's season.  After a 1-0-1 weekend, the women find themselves tied for sixth place.  Against the Hoosiers, the Scarlet (10-2-1, 3-2-1 Big Ten) saw senior Samantha Valliant score her team-leading third game-winning goal in the 21st minute before classmate Hayley Katkowski shut the door with a goal in the final 30 seconds of the first half. The tie with Purdue was disappointing with the Knights outshooting the Boilermakers and dominating on corners.

A Scarlet Knight has won the individual title 13 times since 1993 and Senatore becomes the fourth Rutgers repeat individual champion.  Senatore completed the 5K course at Van Cortland Park in 18:05.2, besting last year's time of 18:19.4. Allyson Black raced to a third place time of 18:43.9 and Alexandra Juzwiak clocked in at 19:23.4 to place eighth.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

The men's cross country team placed third at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx on Friday. It marked the best finish for the team at the Mets in six tries.

Host Fordham earned the team title, producing a first-place time of 2:13.52.

FIELD HOCKEY

A strong start to the season has leveled off as the team has gone 1-5 over the last three weekends of play. Over that span, the big issue has been scoring, as the Knights have been outscored 24 - 7 in the six contests.
