Following a strong performance overshadowed by another late-game letdown, Rutgers now looks ahead to Saturday's trip to Indiana. The Scarlet Knights will attempt to get back to .500 and pick up their third win of the season. The injury report and depth chart for the showdown with the Hoosiers have been released, so let's take a look.
Nine players have already been ruled out, but there are no surprising names. WR John Tsimis (lower body) will miss his second straight game, and RB Desmon Peoples (upper body) will have to wait at least one more week to make his season debut.
Along with Tsimis and Peoples, the following players have been ruled out: DT Darius Hamilton (lower body, out for season), TE George Behr (lower body), WR Dontae Owens (lower body), LB Nick Rafferty (upper body), LB Austin Rosa (lower body), RB Charles Snorweah (upper body) and LB T.J. Taylor (lower body).
FS Anthony Cioffi (upper body) was a late addition to the injury report last week, but ended up starting against Michigan State. He is once again on the injury report, listed as questionable, but unless he suffered a setback during or after Saturday's game, I imagine he'll play against Indiana.
SS Kiy Hester, who recorded his first career interception against the Spartans, gave Rutgers fans a scare when he was slow to get up after a play on Saturday. Trainers were looking at his left leg, but he did return to the game. He is listed as questionable with a lower body injury, but since he returned to last week's game without much issue, I would expect to see him on Saturday.
CB Jarius Adams, who missed last week's game with an upper body injury, has been upgraded to questionable for Saturday's game against Indiana.
SS Davon Jacobs also missed the blackout game with an upper body injury, but he is listed as probable this week, and should be ready to roll. OT Zach Heeman (lower body) and DB Ronnie James (lower body) are also probable.
Here's a look at the updated depth chart, released earlier today.
OFFENSE
QB: Chris Laviano/Hayden Rettig
RB: Paul James OR Josh Hicks OR Justin Goodwin OR Robert Martin
FB: Sam Bergen/Anthony Folkerts
TE: Nick Arcidiacono/Matt Flanagan OR Charles Scarff
WR: Leonte Carroo/Carlton Agudosi
WR: Andre Patton/Janarion Grant
LT: Keith Lumpkin/Zack Heeman
LG: Dorian Miller/Tariq Cole
C: Derrick Nelson/Chris Muller
RG: Chris Muller/Marcus Applefield
RT: J.J. Denman/Ryan Brodie
* No changes other than Carroo returning to the depth chart after his reinstatement last week. Agudosi will likely be the first receiver off the bench in three-wide sets.
* Five weeks in and still no clear-cut starter at running back. Martin received the most carries against Michigan State with 13, followed by Josh Hicks (seven), Paul James (two) and Justin Goodwin (one).
DEFENSE
DE: Quanzell Lambert/Kemoko Turay
NT: Sebastian Joseph/Kevin Wilkins
DT: Julian Pinnix-Odrick/Eric Wiafe
DE: Djwany Mera/Jimmy Hogan
WLB: Steve Longa/Deonte Roberts
MLB: Kaiwan Lewis/Isaiah Johnson
SLB: Quentin Gause/Eric Margolis OR Kevin Marquez
CB: Isaiah Wharton/Brian Verbitski OR Jarius Adams
FS: Anthony Cioffi/Saquan Hampton
SS: Kiy Hester OR Davon Jacobs/Andre Hunt
CB: Blessuan Austin/Ronnie James
* Jacobs, who missed last week's game, is now listed as a co-starter at strong safety along with Hester. This could mostly be due to Hester's questionable status for Saturday's game, but either way it's something to keep an eye on this week.
SPECIAL TEAMS
K: Kyle Federico/Chris Gough
P: Joey Roth/Michael Cintron
LS: Alan Lucy/Alex Hutchings
H: Joey Roth/Brian Verbitski
