Rutgers continues to make a strong push for a top seed in the Big Ten tournament, picking up another conference win against the Purdue Boilermakers, 58-49. The Knights are now 15-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
RU was led by Betnijah Laney and Kahleah Copper. Laney picked up her 13th double-double of the season (tied for seventh nationally) with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Copper added a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Rounding out the Big 3, Tyler Scaife had a bit of an off night, shooting 3-10 for six points. Rutgers as a team shot well from the floor, notching a 43% FG percentage.
As predicted, Purdue struggled shooting the three-point shot despite ten attempts in the game. The Boilermakers ended up losing by nine points, meaning if they made just a few more shots from beyond the arc, they would have had a better chance at the upset tonight. Purdue F Whitney Bays led the Boilermakers with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Rutgers gets a visit from bottom-feeder Penn State on Super Bowl Sunday before welcoming #15 Nebraska to the RAC on Thursday, February 5.
