Rutgers' Paul James out for season with torn ACL

The star running back was injured in the second quarter yesterday in Annapolis.

Injury concerns about Rutgers' leading rusher have come to fruition today as Kyle Flood announced Paul James will be out for one year with a torn ACL. James sustained the injury when his right knee was impacted by the helmet of a Navy defender early in the second quarter of action Saturday.

Before his injury, James rushed for 96 yards on seven carries, including an impressive 38-yard scamper to the end zone that included several broken tackles. He was poised for a monster game until he went down.

Rutgers is loaded at running back, with Justin Goodwin and Desmon Peoples combining for 186 rushing yards against the Midshipmen. But James is a special talent, and is responsible for a lot of the success the past two years in Piscataway. Josh Hicks and Robert Martin, both true freshmen, impressed in training camp and could be called upon as well. It's a devastating loss for the Scarlet Knights as they prepare for the Big Ten gauntlet in a few weeks.

We wish a good recovery to Paul James.
