With Rutgers joining the B1G, the Scarlet Knights get to participate in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, the annual non-conference exhibition on the hardwood. Due to conference realignment, there was actually a legitimate chance that C. Vivian Stringer and her Lady Knights would draw a former Big East member since Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Louisville, and Notre Dame are all now Atlantic Coast Conference member schools.
Thankfully, the Knights get to play a new opponent from Tobacco Road: North Carolina. The Tar Heels are led by 28th-year coach Sylvia Hatchell and just capped a 27-9 (10-6) campaign that was good for fifth in the ACC. They made it to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Women's Tournament before getting knocked out by #2 seed Stanford.
For Rutgers, Stringer and the Knights are coming off a Women's NIT championship after defeating UTEP in the final. Rising sophomore Tyler Scaife returns to a 28-9 squad that should challenge for an NCAA tournament bid in the first season in the Big Ten.
