Wrong Side of the River: RU Targets Visit Penn State

A number of RU priority recruits will visit Penn State this weekend. See who is fraternizing with the enemy here.

Hi Haters
Hi Haters

Penn State will host more than 40 prospects on campus this weekend, including some talented athletes the Scarlet Knights are recruiting:

Shareef Miller -- 6'5" 230 lb. DE, Frankford (Philadelphia).  According to 247, Miller ran a 4.60 40 yard dash at a Rutgers prospect camp last summer, serious speed for a big man.  Miller has more than a dozen offers including Rutgers, Penn State, Arizona State, Temple, Arizona, Pitt, Purdue, UVA, West Virginia, and his latest, Oregon.  He was at Rutgers on March 8.

Myles Hartsfield -- 6'0" 180 RB/S, Sayreville.  Hartsfield holds offers from Rutgers, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Syracuse, Temple and Old Dominion.  Hartsfield is the kind of recruit Kyle Flood absolutely needs to lock down -- neither James Franklin nor any other coach should be able even to THINK about poaching him from Rutgers' own backyard.  In late February, Hartsfield told Todderick Hunt he speaks to new RU DC Joe Rossi every day, which can only be positive for RU. Update: Hartsfield received a Penn State offer during his visit.

Tommy Hatton -- 6'3" 280 lb OL, St. Joe's (Montvale).  Hatton has thirteen offers, including Rutgers, Maryland, BC, Uconn, Duke, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Iowa and Louisville.  He visited Rutgers on March 1, Maryland on March 8, and Boston College on March 15. The big 4* OL is a prime RU target, as he should be, and tweeted on March 15 "Might be making this decision soon."

Naseir Upshur -- 6'4" 225 lb. DE/TE,  Imhotep Institute (Philadelphia).  Although only a sophomore, Upshur already has offers from Arizona State, Pitt, Temple, Arizona, Cincinnati and UConn.  He has yet to receive an offer from either Penn State or Rutgers, but that could change this weekend in State College or next weekend when he visits Piscataway.

It's no secret to Rutgers fans that Penn State is the Knights' prime competitor for PA and NJ recruits, and James Franklin has hit the ground running with his 2015 class.

Despite scholarship restrictions imposed on the Nittany Lions in the wake of the Sandusky scandal, Franklin has already secured commitments from five 4-star athletes, including former Rutgers commit Saquon Barkley and Glassboro's Juwan Johnson (brother of former RU standout George Johnson).

Franklin is not going away, and a bit further west, neither is Urban Meyer.  In other words, the wolves are loose, and Coach Flood needs to start doing some B1G-time hunting of his own.

Check back here throughout the weekend, as this post may be updated.

Update: A stud trio from Union City will be at Penn State next weekend.  4* OL Steven Gonzalez, 4* ATH Daiquan Kelly and RB Tamaine Boyd.  Kelly and Gonzalez have RU offers, and Boyd is close.
