Rutgers Football Recruiting Roundup: Kareem Ali Blowing Up

Checking in on the football recruiting front.

Jim O'Connor-USA TODAY Sports

Kareem Ali is one of the top targets for Rutgers' 2015 class next season. He is a 5'11" cornerback from Timber Creek (Sicklerville, NJ) who has offers from 20 programs and counting, including recent offers from Michigan State and West Virginia.

His 24/7 composite shows a three-star average rating, although it's early in the recruiting process and he could be upgraded when more scouts are familiar with him. 24/7 Sports' own rating is already at four stars. He is definitely a top target for Kyle Flood & Co. and it would behoove them to invest a lot of time in recruiting him, even if the 2014 class was awash with defensive backs. Ali has taken unofficial visits to fellow conference mates Penn State and Maryland, so it seems he's keen on playing in the Big Ten.

James Franklin Makes His 2015 Push for NJ Recruits

Penn State has always made a habit of recruiting New Jersey, and James Franklin is bent on continuing that trend. He hosted Junior Day this past weekend at a hockey game with several of Rutgers' top targets, including current Whitehall (Whitehall, PA) RB commit Saquon Barkley. Barkley is a huge get for Flood as a solid four-star prospect and committed fairly early, so it's imperative that the staff keeps him interested. Barkley has made it publicly known that he will explore other options, so let's see if Flood takes a more delicate approach in regards to committed players taking official visits to other schools.

Other Jersey recruits in attendance were Don Bosco Prep CB Daivon Ellison and St. Peter's Prep QB Brandon Wimbush. Both hold offers from RU, but are fairly cool in terms of interest so the Knights should not be too concerned at this moment. It's possible Rutgers makes a push if they show more interest, however.

The 6'5" 220 pound prospect recalls his time playing with current 2015 commit Mike Dare during a 7-on-7 camp. He is extremely under-the-radar at the moment, but his size should garner attention from many programs.
