Virginia too much for Rutgers, wins 45-26 at Barclays Center

Knights led at halftime, but couldn't overcome the Cavaliers.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Just like the football team today, it was a tale of two halves for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights led #8 Virginia 18-17 after 20 minutes of regulation, but couldn't keep up with the star power of the Cavaliers. The gritty defensive effort from head coach Tony Bennett's team held the Scarlet Knight offense to only eight points after RU scored 68 in last night's win over Vanderbilt. Against the Commodores, four Rutgers players reached double digits in scoring. Tonight? Kadeem Jack led the team with a meager eight points.

One of the biggest factors was three-point shooting. The Knights put up a huge bagel in terms of shooting beyond the arc, going 0 for 13 against Virginia. They were 25% from the field overall. The Cavaliers didn't fare much better, however, as they opened the game with an 11-3 run but finished the half with 17 points.

Eddie Jordan and Co. get a rest on Sunday before jumping back into the non-conference schedule against Clemson at Littlejohn Coliseum.
