The Knights started off slow and could never get a rally going to catch the Colonials. Eddie Jordan's squad lost 70-53 to the George Washington Colonials in the first game of the inaugural B1G hoops season. Guard Myles Mack led all Rutgers players with 14 points, while Mike Williams netted 10 points off the bench.
Three Colonials scored in double digits as RU couldn't find pressure on defense. Sophomore guard Kethan Savage had 18 points for GW, while Joe McDonald had 15 and Patricio Garino scored 10. Savage notched a double-double on the night, grabbing 11 rebounds to go with his 18 points.
The Knights kept a good pace with George Washington in the second half, scoring 32 points against GW's 37. But a sluggish first period was too much for Rutgers to overcome, as the Colonials never trailed in the matchup. Look for the full recap from Dave White later tonight.
Rutgers next game will be against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights, 7:30 PM on Wednesday, at the RAC.
