Rutgers Football Recruiting Commit Alert! Freddie Simmons

The Scarlet Knights get a commitment from a Pennsylvania wideout.

Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood received a commitment from Bethlehem (PA) 2015 wide receiver Freddie Simmons. The 6'3", 170-pound wideout has been fond of RU for awhile, and originally desired to wait until after his senior season to declare his commitment. That changed earlier today when Simmons announced via Twitter:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Committed to Rutgers University.&#10;<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/CHOPNATION?src=hash">#CHOPNATION</a> </p>&mdash; Freddie Simmons Jr. (@mr5immons) <a href="https://twitter.com/mr5immons/status/524700855610933248">October 21, 2014</a></blockquote>

Simmons is a tall, rangy, physical prospect who can grow into a primetime receiver for the Scarlet Knights. When asked what he was looking for in a school, Simmons had this to say:

"Neither of my parents [went] to college, but my parents paved the way for me to do the things I am doing. My parents sent me to Becahi for academics. That's a big focus for the entire family. Football's important too, but they have stressed that academics come first." -9/15 interview with The Morning Call

Simmons chose Rutgers over offers from West Virginia, Cal, Purdue, and Virginia, among others. Welcome to the Banks, Freddie!
