Big Ten Football Players of the Week: Week 8

It seems that the Offensive/Freshman Player of the Week Awards are on the verge of being renamed the JT Barrett Award. And don't we know it. Meanwhile the other weekly awards went "west" to Golden Gophers.

Offensive Players of the Week and Freshman of the Week

J.T. Barrett, Ohio State, Fr., QB

  • Accounted for 368 yards of total offense and five touchdowns to lead Ohio State to its 18th consecutive Big Ten win
  • Completed 19 of 31 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns
  • Added 107 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries
  • Wins his second Offensive Player of the Week and fourth Freshman of the Week award

Defensive Player of the Week

Cedric Thompson, Minnesota, Sr., S

  • Registered six tackles and two interceptions to guide Minnesota to a victory over Purdue
  • Recorded an interception on the Boilermakers' first offensive play of the game, returning it 27 yards to the Purdue two-yard line and setting up a Minnesota touchdown
  • Sealed the win with his second interception of the game on Purdue's final offensive play
  • Claims his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor

Special Teams Player of the Week

Ryan Santoso, Minnesota, Fr., K

  • Converted both of his field goal attempts, including a game-winning 52-yarder with 4:59 left in the fourth quarter
  • Made a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter to bring the Gophers within two points before the career-long 52-yard conversion
  • Recorded the longest field goal by a Minnesota kicker since 2003
  • Claims his first career Special Teams Player of the Week honor

By the way, if you didn't check his link, Santoso is 6'6" and 245.  And he's the kicker!
