Welcome back from the bye week. I hope all of you had a better week than Lane Kiffin, who is the first coach to get the boot this year (although Greg Schiano doesn't seem to be too far behind down in Tampa). Rutgers begins its exhilarating quest for the American Athletic Conference crown (stop laughing, that includes a BCS bid) this Saturday when the Scarlet Knights make the trip to the Lone Star state to take on the Galloping Ponies of SMU.
The Mustangs are off to a bit of slow start this year, although they didn't really help themselves by taking on an entire slate of BCS-conference Texas teams. With Rutgers coming off an emotional high after the Arkansas win, will SMU catch the Knights in a classic trap game?
Profile
SMU Mustangs (1-3) Last week: Lost @ TCU, 17-48
2012 Record: 7-6 (5-3 C-USA)
Head Coach: June Jones (108-78 overall, 32-37 SMU)
Location: Dallas, TX
Series: First ever meeting
Broadcast Info
Saturday, October 5 - 12:00 PM (11 AM local time)
Channel: ESPNNEWS (yes, they broadcast actual games on that channel now)
Forecast: Clear & sunny, 72 degrees
Rutgers will be without Paul James for at least a couple of games, so the time is now for Savon Huggins. This will also be a good test for the secondary, considering SMU rarely runs the ball and basically passes for most of its yardage. The key will be to stay as healthy as possible for the Thursday night matchup at Louisville.
