Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 7/19

Committed Players

St. Peter's Prep/Westfield TE Mike Giacone is on board. You can watch video of the commitment on the official Maurader Radio Network blog here, which has some good SPP info. Might as well follow the official SPP Twitter account while you're at it.

Sayreville athlete Delon Stephenson was next in line.

D.C. OL Derrick Nelson was undecided, then he apparently was not.

Uncommitted Players

The wait for word from Don Bosco/Edison WR Leonte Carroo continues.

Bosco senior wide receiver Leonte Carroo said he will announce his choice Aug. 6.

Woah, what happened to NJ DT Jamil Pollard's PSU verbal?

According to West Deptford coach Clyde Folsom, Penn State pulled the plug on his scholarship offer last month, citing that Pollard has not yet qualified academically.

"Penn State could get back in the picture, but they felt he hadn’t made the progress they were looking for," Folsom said. "They didn’t feel they could hold the scholarship."

Boston College, Rutgers, East Carolina and Temple are among the schools that are back in the mix, according to Folsom.

Meh, not thrilled about NY DB Wayne Morgan taking his time.

Morgan said he wants to definitely visit Alabama and Miami, as well as California and South Carolina.

NJ LB/DB Elijah Shumate on his top five:

Shumate said that list now consists of South Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia Tech and Rutgers in no order.

Ohio State is calling for '13 NJ CB Eli Woodard.

Everybody's interested in South Jersey LB Quanzell Lambert.

NJ ATH Devin Fuller plans to visit UCLA and Nebraska.

JUCO TE Blake Jackson has little interest in Rutgers.

'13 DE DL Kenny Bigelow recently camped at Auburn. Bigelow's high school, Red Lion Christian, has been officially sanctioned by the state of Delaware to recruit. Does anyone else think that should be a far bigger story than it is at the moment?

The official Rivals early state rankings are out for your criticism. NJ's top twenty five is crazy deep this year, although it falls off sharply after that.

NJ DE/LB Mike Strizak committed to BC. It would have been nice to sign five from Bosco this year, but Strizak would have committed to BC months ago if he wasn't giving serious consideration to the idea of a package deal. In the end, they pressured him and he bit. FL WR Devonte Robinson committed to WVU. FL OL John Theus committed to Georgia. FL WR MacGarrett Kings committed to MSU.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.
