Committed Players
Coach Schiano talked up enrolled freshmen Savon Huggins and Kaleb Johnson today, while confirming that one unnamed recruit is not yet qualified. If that student athlete doesn't make it to campus this fall, then RU will be right at the 85-player roster limit.
Miles Shuler finished second to Damiere Byrd at the Meet of Champions, not that Miles is particularly worried. The race from a few weeks ago was actually the Group II Championships. Shuler graduates from Long Branch High this Thursday.
Ohio beat up Pennsylvania in the Big 33 showdown, but Tyler Kroft had a good game. There was a lot of negative buzz last week about Delvon Simmons at the game. Coach Schiano attended the Big 33 banquet, and deflected a question about Terrelle Pryor while calling for stricter rule enforcement.
Syracuse fans really don't like to read Quentin Gause talk about how much he wants to be a broadcaster. It's true that Newhouse pretty much does run the NYC sports media. Don't discount the influence of experienced television executive Tim Pernetti's ROLODEX OF DOOM however, or that there is a big Rutgers contingent at WFAN.
Hey recruits, this is what's in store if you commit to Rutgers (please note: this link is not to a dealership full of free SUV's. This ain't Columbus.)
Uncommitted Players
What's NJ DB Yuri Wright thinking?
"I do like (in no order) Michigan, Notre Dame, Colorado, Rutgers and Georgia right now."
NJ DB Kye Morgan on his favorites:
"Right now it’s Rutgers and Virginia," said Morgan. "They’ve been showing the most interest. BC has too, so I want to take a look."
RU's in the mix for '13 NJ DE Garrett Sickels.
It's too bad, but MD Sam Lebbie has a roundabout way of saying that he does not have much in the way of options.
"Illinois," he said. "They are reaching out and showing that they are still going to stick with me through all this with my grades."
His interest didn't disappear because of talent. If it makes you feel better, Lebbie would have been aiming a lot higher than RU if everything was in order.
MD WR Ian Thomas is still interested in RU and a bunch of other schools.
PA TE Jack Schwaba wants to decide relatively soon.
MA DB Armani Reeves is looking at PSU and ND. Not really paying attention to him or MA ATH Canaan Severin to be honest.
It's still early, but it sounds like D.C. Jefferson's younger brother, '13 FL RB Adam Lane is thinking factory. Dunno if FL ATH Trey Dudley-Giles has a committable offer. Not much interest from FL DB Chris Bivins.
PA OL Frank Taylor committed to BC. Former OSU signee Ejuan Price transferred to Pitt. It's too bad to lose a Rahway prospect, but NJ S Brandon Napoleon followed his father to WVU. NY QB Chad Kelly confirmed his long-rumored verbal to Clemson. MD DE Michael Moore committed to UVA. FL ATH Dwayne Hoilett and lineman Jelani Hamilton committed to Miami (thanks for staying out of NJ so far Golden.) FL lineman James Hamilton committed to FSU.
Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.
Eli Ankou, Shuler Bentley (Chas Dodd's step brother), Marcus Coleman, Malik Golden, Marcell Lazard, Drew Madhu (not many prospects out there with Desi ancestry, which could be a selling point if RU has interest), Albert Reid, Khaliel Rodgers, Monte Taylor, Mark Thomas, Dominic Twitty (2), David Williams, and T.J. White.
