Brett McMurphy makes some good points about a tenth team possibly not making sense for the Big East, but a lot of what he says seems heavily slanted towards the commissioner's office/basketball-only schools (which for all intents and purposes speak with a singular voice), and sections are remarkably devoid of context (like the total revenue comparison, which should be on a per-team basis.) Frankly, McMurphy's sources talking up the service academies and advocating kowtowing to ESPN come off as nothing short of preposterous. Guys, you have to be at least a little subtle to be credible.
Everyone is already probably hanging on Eric LeGrand's every encouraging word on Twitter, but if you missed it last week, Eric spoke at the opening ceremonies for the NJ Special Olympics.
Who will be the best basketball teams in the BE next year based on statistical projections? This ranking takes into account transfers, but has not yet taken recruits into account. RU is currently twelfth, and a fair guess is that they'll be there or eleventh depending on how St. John's projection looks. That's pretty much in line with what the conventional media is saying.
Ivan Maisel's series on college sports in professional sports markets might be worth reading this week.
Winnipeg of the CFL announced that Tim Brown is retiring due to injury. Not sure if they mean literal retirement, or they're just using weird Canadian terminology because they're Canadian.
There was a thread on Rivals linking RU's updated Livingston Campus Construction page, which is worth a read if you have a chance. Pres. McCormick deserves a lot of credit for advancing this project into reality.
Going out on a limb here, but Rutgers football probably won't be scheduling Boston College any time soon as long as Gene DeFilippo is athletic director. Anything having to do with BC is insufferable in any and all contexts, but DeFilippo is a reprehensible figure far beyond that.
Goodbye, George Zoffinger. May we never again have the opportunity to ever utter your cursed name forevermore.
