These two combined for a close 58-56 game earlier in the season, with St. John's eeking out a home win via a large foul disparity. Of course, RU was sandwiched in between big games against Duke and UCLA, and the Johnnies proceeded to go on a nice little run through the Big East in February.
The odds should certainly favor St. John's today, especially with Rutgers exhausted from a brutal rivalry game. I'm not sure about the theory that they should be considered the tournament favorite this year, based off their bracket anyway. Rutgers played them hard, and Seton Hall actually beat them soundly, although that contingency is off the table. Still, Syracuse might well have more fans at MSG Thursday than anyone.
