Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 1/25

Committed Players

Welcome aboard Josue Matias and Lafayette "Worm" Pitts. Paul Zeise says Pitts will still visit Pitt, so that's worth watching. Still no word yet from other publicly-announced weekend visitors Savon Huggins, Max Issaka, Marquise Wright, and Fou Fonoti. Fingers crossed for Friday.

Bound Brook's Andrew Campolattano has decommitted.

Get to know your future president and mine, Miles Shuler. His face will be on the galactic hyper space dollars in 2200.

Uncommitted Players

Michigan offered NJ DE Max Issaka.

As for Wright:

Michigan State and Rutgers remain at the top of Wright’s list, with Miami still in the picture and Pitt trying to climb back into things. Those are the only four schools under consideration.

He's unsure and undecided about visiting Miami.

PA DE Desimon Green visited Pitt instead of RU last weekend and could end up there. PA OL/DT Delvon Simmons is looking at USC, Oregon, Texas Tech, and Pitt.

Mike Farrell likes Rutgers for NJ RB Savon Huggins but doesn't see NJ TE Ryan Malleck ending up here. Well, not if he's not visiting. I'd like to sign Issaka and have one of Jackson or George play TE.

'12 NJ ATH Devin Fuller has a very impressive highlight video, as does '12 NJ LB Jazzmar Clax.

MD OL Mike Madaras is another 2012 prospect holding a verbal offer. '12 PA TE Colin Thompson is visiting UF this weekend.

FL OL Kaleb Johnson enjoyed his visit to Miami, where he got to meet their new (old) OL coach. RU, UNC, and UL are all still in pursuit. '12 FL DT Earl Moore is liking FSU early.

Oversigning officially needs to be redressed when even UCF is doing it (to Deion Green, fwiw). Andy Staples is doing the Lord's work, in compiling a list of the worst offenders (which does not include 2011). Read Bylaw Blog's take too.

Ok, time to poach a Florida Atlantic recruit out of spite after their A.D. said this.

Angelos believes FAU's stadium will convince kids to play in Boca instead of going to schools like Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia.

"If you are going to go to the SEC, the ACC, you're not going to compete with those schools for awhile. But the Big East, let's face it, they're not tearing it up. I think we're getting closer and closer to them. That's the group I think we can contend with."

Paul Pasqualoni and George DeLeone are joined at the hip, so it's little wonder that DeLeone was P's first hire at UConn. He should help their recruiting, but don't expect miracles given how that duo had started to slip a decade ago in Syraucse. Curious to see who the other hires will be though.

NJ S Sheldon Royster and NJ ATH Tanner McEvoy committed to South Carolina (where they now think G.A. Mangus is God). FL TE Nick O'Leary committed to FSU. FL LB Denzel Perryman committed to Miami. PA DB Terrell Chestnut committed to WVU. PA OL/DT Brandon Clemons committed to MSU. SC WR Hakeem Flowers and FL DT Chris Jones committed to NC State. D.C. RB Malcolm Crockett switched from Cincy to Pitt. FL LB Nick Menocal switched from Miami to Georgia Tech.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Bryton Barr, Chevelle Buie, Jamie Byrd/Ivan Foy (worth reading for other tidbits too), Ernest Hawkins, Kalief JoynerOlsen Pierre, and Armani Reeves.
