The writing was on the wall, but Chevelle Buie isn't coming to Rutgers. This is a situation where you ignore what a player says and look at what he does. His remaining options are ECU and Marshall. The end.
At a listed 6'9, 290 it's no wonder Keith Lumpkin is playing basketball.
What's this about making a push in Western Pennsylvania? There is a lot of competition from B10 schools, but I always thought it was a little weird that RU had two Allegheny College alumni on staff and rarely recruited that area. It'd be nice to get a player or two from there each year. So now Rutgers is getting in late on players like Desi Green, Ejuan Price, and Lafayette Pitts.
Still, Pitts isn't sure he'll enroll here, having scheduled visits to Maryland and Rutgers this month.
And Green remains far from recommitting to the Panthers. He has visits planned for Texas Tech, Michigan State and Rutgers. The Rutgers visit was late addition, he said, because the Scarlet Knights have offered to let him play offense.
Don't count out a late surge by the home team...
He is down to Florida, Miami, and Rutgers.
(Note: the writer meant FSU, not UF.) What's relevant there is that UNC is not mentioned. Matias almost didn't visit Miami, and we get his last visit this weekend for RU's big recruiting weekend with Savon Huggins. Time to start digging up anti-FSU material...
NJ DT Marquise Wright's fallback option was UNC, but is now MSU (but is now unsure about visiting?) It sounds like he'll commit to Rutgers if offered. Wright is a high-profile prospect, but this is a situation where you have to trust the staff with whatever decision they make. And for the star-gazers, Rivals.com did drop Wright from #69 to out of the top #100. Of course, they're also criminally underrating Savon Huggins...
NJ ATH Tanner McEvoy will announce on Thursday, almost certainly for South Carolina.
'12 NJ LB Quanzell Lambert was planning to stop by for last Saturday's Junior Day. Visitors were in attendance from all over, with plenty of locals like '12 ATH Devin Fuller. '12 DT Darius Hamilton also had some positive things to say on Twitter (DO NOT TWEET UNSIGNED RECRUITS).
Guess we're not in the mix for PA DB Terrell Chestnut.
Chestnut felt it was time to reconsider the oral commitment he made before the season, and is now considering Miami, West Virginia, Villanova and Boston College.
One late RU visit (1/28) will be FL ATH Raheem Mostert. Plant City should have a few D1 prospects next year. FL OL Tony Posada is looking around. RU offered '12 FL ATH Ricardo Lewis, and '12 FL S Deon Bush.
Random coaching news: Neptune's (Charles Davis) coach is moving to Bishop Ahr in Edison. That's more akin to St. Joe's of Metuchen hiring the old Carteret coach then any concept of building a North Jersey-style superprogram. Wonder if either of those or 'Lata would ever be able to keep a Sheldon Royster or Leonte Carroo in the GMC or Skyland going forward.
The new Pitt staff officially has no assistant with ties to New Jersey. Good times. I sincerely wish them all of the luck in the world in recruiting western Pennsylvania (and SEC/Big XII country, which the new WVU staff is geared towards as well).
NJ WR Bill Belton committed to PSU (someone explain why they wasted like 4 ships on MAC players before deciding to recruit again). PA LB Ejuan Price committed to OSU. NJ TE Jack Tabb committed to UNC. NY ATH Bam Reddish committed to Syracuse. FL OL Errin Joe committed to GT. FL WR Andre Davis committed to USF. Cincy commit RB Malcolm Crockett will visit Pitt. FL ATH Kevin Grooms committed to Miami. NJ LB Anthony Sarao switched from Stanford to USC. FL DB Dallas Crawford switched from Michigan to Miami.
Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.
