Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 9/21

Committed Players

QB Mike Bimonte led Manalapan to a stunning upset over Middletown South.

RB Ben Martin was limited in Absegami's loss to Holy Spirit.

DT Al Page is missing time with an intestinal injury. The article indicates he should come back soon.

The Targum's Sam Hellman catches up with DT Daryl Stephenson and LB Quentin Gause. Stephenson played well in a Sayreville win.

Uncommitted Players

Will NJ OL Josue Matias return to the field this year?

"I haven’t been able to play because of a knee injury. I don’t really want to describe it. It’s not really that bad but it [will take] a lot of therapy to get it back to normal."

When asked when he might be good to go Matias replied, "Towards the end of the season." Thus, it might be a good bet that Matias’ high school football days are over.

You can only hope that Mike Farrell hasn't given Rutgers the kiss of death by declaring Matias a "lock" for the Scarlet Knights.

With last week's bye, the Rutgers coaching staff took to the recruiting trail, with Greg Schiano a visible presence down the shore. He was also at the Prep/St. Joe's game in Bergen Country (video). NJ RB Savon Huggins must be pretty good if 138 yards and 1 TD are considered a disappointment.

Once again, NJ WR Miles Shuler was "special" in a Long Branch victory.

NJ TE Jack Tabb played in the Neptune/Red Bank Catholic game that Schiano visited, although Tabb isn't talking RU up much at the moment.

NJ QB Tanner McEvoy looks brilliant for Bergen Catholic, although he is doing a lot of his damage on the ground.

2012 NJ LB Kaiwan Lewis added an offer from ECU.

UNC TE commit Eric Ebron maintains that he is solid to the Tar Heels.

Scout is now showing an offer out to FL DT Chris Jones. FL DT Terry Bell plans to visit Rutgers.
