Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 8/31

Committed Players

Scott Stump explains how Mike Bimonte lobbied for a Rutgers offer.

Chevelle Buie battled cramps to rush 23 times for 86 yards in Cocoa's season opener.

The Schianocopter led Kevin Snyder to Rutgers.

Did Daryl Stephenson look bad in a scrimmage with Freehold?

Uncommitted Players

This South Carolina-slanted update on NJ OL Josue Matias is rather uninformative.

He says he has not decided on offcials and will take three or four of the visits before committing in October. "South Carolina will probably get one," he said. "They are showing me a lot of interest." No favorites for the Jersey lineman.

It's fair to say that Rutgers fans are more than a little interested in the St. Peter's Prep trio of RB Savon Huggins, OT Keith Lumpkin, and S Sheldon Royster. Will they play together in college?

"We talk about that all the time," said the 6-foot-8, 290-pound Lumpkin, who has also earned All-Hudson Reporter honors in basketball during his tenure at Grand and Warren. "There is a possibility we could all end up together."

Let's say, hypothetically, that each prospect has a 70% chance of staying home at Rutgers. There are two important statistical points here. First, 70%, or any plurality doesn't equal 100%. Just because a player may be leaning in one direction doesn't make their choice guaranteed, or not subject to change. Second, even if all three are leaning this way, it will still be a daunting challenge. If each has a hypothetical 70% (which is just a number pulled out of thin air for ease with this example) of picking RU, that still means that the probability of all three independent events is just 34.3% (which is 70% times 70% times 70%).

Bergen Catholic football has an official blog, where you can catch up on the play of Tanner McEvoy in their scrimmages.

Apparently NJ TE Jack Tabb is looking at Michigan and UNC now?

2012 NJ LB Kaiwan Lewis is looking south early.

Keith Sargeant's Sunday feature on Greg Schiano's 18-hour work day includes an unnamed cameo by NY DE Ishaq William. Yes, I am scared to death of a bylaw 13.10.1 violation. That can be weird, because some contact is ok and some isn't apparently.

PA OL Brandon Clemons always seems to mention Pitt and RU in every article.

"They're close and Coach (Greg) Schiano has been doing great things in that program. I've met a few of their players; it's a good school. I know it's a great program and great campus."

2012 NY DB Wayne Morgan has already visited RU, but PSU and Miami lead.

MD OL Donovan Smith plans to visit PSU.

Rutgers hasn't made the top five for FL LB Ramik Wilson. FL WR Andre Davis sounds very interested however. FL TE Brandon Fulse has a top ten, which doesn't include RU. Wondering why you haven't heard much about Florida DE Giovani Francois lately? Legal issues.

Former Rivals CEO Shannon Terry stumps for 247 Sports on a radio interview. Some interesting comments (especially about their affiliate model) there if you have the time to listen, and are interested in the topic.

GA OL Quincy McKinney committed to South Carolina.
