Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 8/24

Committed Players

Rivals.com is reporting that non-qualifiers Tejay Johnson and Ken Kirksey will prep at Fork Union, and Djwany Mera will prep at Hargrave.

Uncommitted Players

Some fun speculation on NJ RB Savon Huggins.

Perhaps most interesting of possible suitors is Rutgers because of his relationship with fellow New Jersey recruits Miles Shuler-Foster and Charles Davis. The three have taken high school football in New Jersey by storm, and all are being recruited by the Scarlet Knights.

Huggins is on the top of Florida's RB board now (putting aside for a minute that they don't use traditional tailbacks).

The problem could be Rutgers. He’s been there many more times than Florida — or any other school — and the feeling is that it will be too hard for him to turn down the home team. While Florida has proven it can recruit well in that part of the country, Rutgers might have too much of a lead right now.

Incoming Rutgers walk-on transfer RB Travis Patterson thinks Miles Shuler will attend Rutgers.

NJ DE Shilique Calhoun reportedly has Rutgers in his top 6. That's assuming he chooses football over basketball though. Scott Stump says Calhoun's up to two low-major BB offers.

NJ QB Tanner McEvoy is starting to parse down his list. Looks like he's going to take his time, like a lot of RU' targets left on the board.

His mother confirmed Sunday night the Gamecocks have made the cut. She was not at liberty to disclose the rest of the reduced list until her son has contacted the schools

Rutgers is one of six teams to make NJ TE Jack Tabb's cut, although he's mentioning UNC and Florida first. Tabb is undecided about visiting Arkansas.

NY DE Ishaq Williams visited Rutgers practice during the week.

NJ WR Damiere Byrd says his planned visits don't necessarily indicate his top 3.

MD OT Cyrus Kouandjio doesn't have RU in his top 11. MD S Nico Law cut his list to five, which doesn't include Rutgers.

In a bit of very exciting news, FL DB Jonathan Aiken has Rutgers as his leader over UCLA. FL RB Tre Mason is starting to look at traditional football factories. FL OL/DL Giorgio Newberry says Florida cooled on him after he visited FSU. FL LB Keith Lewis has no favorites. FL DE Ricardo Williams is setting up visits.

FL CB Nick Waisome committed to UF. FL RB/LB James Wilder Jr. committed to FSU. D.C. RB Malcolm Crockett committed to Cincinnati. '10 FL signee WR Adrian Coxson is transferring to Maryland, and there's talk that Jordan Haden could follow him. FL OL Max Lang committed to USF.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.

Daniel Adams, John Appiah, Ryan Brumfield, Naim Cheeseboro, Steve Cluley, Dan Foesel, Devin Fuller, Rannell Hall, Kareem Jackson, Corey Majors, Kye Morgan, Maika Polamalu, Lonnie Rawles, Stephan Thomas, and DeVaunte Waugh (moved here since no one thinks he has a written offer).
