Rutgers football recruiting update for the week of 4/27

Commits

According to Coach Schiano, the trio of J.T. Tartacoff, Dave Milewski, and Sam Bergen made it to almost every spring workout.

The NJ roster for the upcoming NJ/NE classic is out. Rutgers signees on the team include Jorge Vicioso, Dave Milewski, Tejay Johnson, and J.T. Tartacoff. Bujari and Quartucci would probably be there if they weren't already enrolled. I haven't been able to find a NE roster yet, but they'll be coached by Paul Carrezola's former HC.

Uncommitted players

Scout.com's database is now showing an offer out to Manchester TE/DE Taques Franklin.

Bergen Catholic ATH Tanner McEvoy just added offers from Michigan and Virginia, and was at the Rutgers spring game.

Another prospect at the spring game was RB Savon Huggins from St. Peter's Prep. He's still unwilling to name favorites.

Huggins and teammates OL Keith Lumpkin and S Sheldon Roster are featured in this ESPN piece, along with quotes from the likes of Brooklyn DL Ishaq Williams and Roxbury OL Angelo Mangiro.

I spent the better part of last week on the road in New Jersey, Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania and New York, and one of the things that stood out was the amount of praise Rutgers coach Greg Schiano got from recruits and high school coaches in all of the areas.

Mangiro is still adding offers, and planned to visit BC.

TE Jack Tabb has added a new offer from Maryland.

Prior to this offer from Maryland the only school that had extended a scholarship to Tabb was Rutgers. As the home state school the Scarlet Knights figure to be a major factor in Tabb’s recruitment as well.

Florida and Purdue are throwing their hats into the mix too.

Scott Stump is reporting that Middletown TE/DE Shilique Calhoun has added offers from BC and Syracuse.

Queens WR/TE Devon Cajuste has too added offers from BC and Maryland. Seems like right about now is the time that those out of state schools are coming in and starting too evaluate talent. Too bad any verbals/rumored future verbals won't get as many, although the upside there is that a Rutgers commitment is seen as difficult to break.

PA LB Ben Kline just visited West Virginia and Penn State.

DE OL Trip Thurman has added an offer from Florida.

FL DT Deon Green sure is adding a lot of offers. LB Tony Steward has Rutgers on his list.

Michigan Sports Zone reports on a weekend Combine in Matawan, which included underclassmen from the '12 and '13 classes.

CT OL Conor Hanratty is a Notre Dame legacy and basically a lock and silent verbal to the Irish, and finally went public at their spring game. There were reports over the weekend that DC DT Kevin McReynolds committed to OSU, but they were incorrect. didn't know that FL TE Jeff Heuerman was a Michigan legacy, which certainly makes his OSU commitment noteworthy.

Watchlist: This is a section of this site's weekly recruiting posts featuring links to players that Rutgers may or may not be showing interest in, but has not yet offered.
